Quando un abito ha un taglio semplice e lineare, scegliere la stoffa giusta per non farlo apparire banale  è fondamentale. Snoozer Loser propone accuratamente diversi patterns che a me piacciono molto e che mi fanno tornare un pò bambina.

Se ho un problema quando intraprendo un nuovo progetto, è quello ci scegliere i tessuti adatti. Purtroppo nella mia città c'è un solo negozio di stoffe, che per di più è molto ricco per quel che riguarda i tessuti d'arredamento ma un pò meno se si tratta di abbigliamento. Non me la sento ancora di comprare tessuti in internet: sono talmente insicura sulla scelta che ho bisogno di "toccare con mano".
Sul sito di "The sew weekly" ho trovato qualcosa che può darmi qualche indicazione (almeno per non rischiare di trovarmi a fare una gonna con un tessuto un pò troppo grosso....vi spiegherò più avanti) e così voglio condividerla con voi:

Immaginate un vecchio orientale assorto nei suoi pensieri e con gli occhi pieni di ricordi. Apparentemente fragile come la crosta della creme brulè e delicato come la neve, ma in realtà resistente al tempo e ai cambiamenti.
Ecco come sarebbe il lino se fosse un uomo. In fondo ha circa 6000 anni.
È naturalmente antibatterico.
È antimacchia.
È antistatico.
Può assorbire il 35% dell’umidità presente nell’ambiente senza risultare umido sulla pelle. È facile da lavorare, anche per le principianti come me. Inoltre lo si utilizza sia nell’arredamento che nell’abbigliamento.

Voi penserete, ma sta fibra vegetale non ha difetti? Bè, nessuno è perfetto: I capi bianchi vanno lavati in lavatrice a 60°C, mentre quelli c0olorati a temperature inferiori. Il lino si stropiccia facilmente ed è pure faticoso stirarlo, infatti lo si deve mettere sotto un asciugamano umido altrimenti diventa orribilmente lucido. Ora si trova in commercio in mille tonalità diverse, ma ricordate che non è per nulla semplice colorarlo artigianalmente.

Senti un po’, non sarò il tessuto più prezioso della storia, ma copro il 50% del fabbisogno tessile mondiale, per di più venivo usato già dagli Egizi! Mi pare un buon risultato visto che la mia famiglia d’origine si trova in India e nelle zone subtropicali di Africa e Sudamerica. Un po’ di rispetto per favore. Vorrei proprio vederti lavorare con quella capricciosa della seta. Anche lei è una fibra naturale come me, ma senza dubbio io sono adatto a tutti (anche ai più piccoli) visto che resisto al sole, all’acqua (anche ad alte temperature), non sono elettrostatico e sono anallergico. Ok, ammetto di non aver avuto sempre una buona fama…quando gli Europei cominciarono a coltivarmi in America nacque lo sfruttamento della manodopera degli schiavi provenienti dall’Africa, ma la necessità di avermi a disposizione diede un enorme impulso economico e industriale, sino ad arrivare all’invenzione del telaio meccanico. Sono adatto sia all’abbigliamento che all’arredamento.

Avete conosciuto il signor Cotone, dopo che ho pensato che fosse un tessuto comune e di poco valore. Mi sbagliavo.

Entro nel negozio di tessuti: quanti colori, quante fantasie. Convinta di riuscire senza difficoltà a trovare quel che mi serve per il mio prossimo progetto, mi dirigo verso i tessuti fantasia a passo deciso quando una commessa mi si para davanti e mi chiede cosa cerco: “eme eh, non ho un idea precisa. Vorrei dare un occhiata…vorrei confezionare un vestito” Lei con un’espressione annoiata: “ va beh, senta le serve cotone? Seta? O maglina? perchè abbiamo anche del popeline…ma questo vestito è per l’estate o l’inverno?” E io, sforzandomi di tenere un’espressione seriamente pensierosa e non di totale smarrimento con in realtà era: ” Potrebbe andare bene il cotone….?”. Lo so che quel punto di domanda finale non doveva esserci: mi ha fregato! Infatti la commessa comincia a recitarmi una lista dei diversi tipi di cotone utilizzabili, mentre io mi faccio sempre più piccola e mi sento sempre più disorientata. Finale della storia: ringrazio la commessa, la liquido con un “ci devo pensare su” e esco dal negozio sbattendo contro una cassetta piena di scampoli….ouch.

Prendo fiato.

Da questa breve esperienza ho capito alcune cose:

1. mai dire a una commessa “non ho un idea precisa” e allo stesso tempo trasmettere maggior convinzione nel “vorrei dare un occhiata”;
2. allenarsi nel bluff delle espressioni facciali;
3. conoscere i tessuti.

Mentre i primi due punti potranno al massimo portarmi a lunghe sedute di recitazione davanti allo specchio , il terzo punto voglio affrontarlo con voi (può tornarvi utile per evitare la spiacevole sensazione “interrogazione a scuola senza aver aperto neanche un libro”).

Sto già preparando qualcosa…

End of the story: I thank the salesgirl, I dispose of her with "I have to think about" and I left the shop, slamming into a box full of scraps. ... ouch.
I take breath.
From this short experience I have learned a few things:
1. never say to a salesgirl "don’t have a clear idea" and at the same time convey more conviction: "I would like to have a look";
2. workout in the bluff of facial expressions;
3. know fabrics.

While the first two points may take long sessions of recitation in front of the mirror, I want to deal with you the third point (can be use to avoid the unpleasant feeling "question to school without even having opened a book").

I'm already preparing for something ...
