Se ho un problema quando intraprendo un nuovo progetto, è quello ci scegliere i tessuti adatti. Purtroppo nella mia città c'è un solo negozio di stoffe, che per di più è molto ricco per quel che riguarda i tessuti d'arredamento ma un pò meno se si tratta di abbigliamento. Non me la sento ancora di comprare tessuti in internet: sono talmente insicura sulla scelta che ho bisogno di "toccare con mano".
Sul sito di "The sew weekly" ho trovato qualcosa che può darmi qualche indicazione (almeno per non rischiare di trovarmi a fare una gonna con un tessuto un pò troppo grosso....vi spiegherò più avanti) e così voglio condividerla con voi:

On the website of "The sew weekly" I found something that can give me some indication (at least to avoid the risk of being to make a skirt with a fabric a little too thick .... I'll explain later) and so I want to share with you:

Una fodera per la macchina da cucire

Stufa della polvere che si insinuava negli ingranaggi della mia macchina da cucire, ho realizzato una fodera:

Farla è molto semplice e veloce. Innanzitutto prendete le misure della vostra macchina da cucire, ricordandovi di aggiungere almeno un centimetro per lato. Quindi ritagliate i rettangoli di stoffa, lasciando almeno 1 cm per le cuciture:

It is very simple and fast. First, take the measurements of your sewing machine, remembering to add at least an inch on each side.
Then cut out the rectangles of fabric, leaving at least 1 cm for seams:

In totale dovrete avere 5 pezzi di stoffa!

In total you’ll have 5 pieces of fabric!

Per creare l’aperture per il manico si procede sempre prendendo le misure della larghezza del manico e si aggiunge ½ cm per lato. Fate attenzione a controllarla distanza del manico dai lati della macchina di cucire: spesso non è centrale! I lati del buco per il manico andranno cuciti sul rovescio.

To create the openings for the handle is always proceeds by taking measurements of the width of the neck and add ½ inches square. Be careful to check the handle away from the sides of the sewing machine: it isn’t often central!

Ricordatevi di fare l’orlo!

Si può ora cominciare ad assemblare i vari pezzi: le cuciture vanno sul rovescio della stoffa!

Qualche giorno fa, un post di ::pannuet:: mi ha chiarito le idee su come modificare una vecchia gonna lunga che non volevo buttare. Un orlo tipo festone è l’idea giusta per questa stagione estiva!

Avete notato quanto si è diffusa questa moda? Basta dare un occhiata a Banana meet-cute, a Paper Sparrow, a Tilly and the Buttons e capire quanto sia facile realizzarlo con il tutorial di Megan Nielsen!

Personalmente penso che dei pantaloncini corti con un orlo di questo tipo siano il massimo! Spero di riuscire a farne un paio prima o poi.

No, non ho ancora finito la mia gonna, ma penso che non ci vorrà ancora molto! Nel frattempo, visto che una borsa di plastica non mi pare degna custode dei miei appunti di cucito (sì, il corso che sto frequentando mi esalta...), ho pensato di cucirne una semplice ma capiente.

Inoltre mi sono messa a rispolverare un'antica usanza: ricavare il detergente per piatti e bucato (sì,si può usare in molti modi!) dalla cenere!

Per chi ha la fortuna di avere una stufa a legna, questo detergente può rivelarsi efficace, economico e soprattutto ecologico.

I also started to revive an old custom: make the dishwashing and laundry detergent (yes, you can use in many ways!) from the ash!

For those fortunate people that have a wood stove, this cleancer can be effective, economic and, above all, environmentally friendly.

Ecco la ricetta:

1. cenere
2. acqua

Una parte di cenere viene mescolata con cinque parti di acqua (rapporto in volume). Disposta in una pentola, usata per questo solo scopo e non di alluminio, si fa bollire, a fuoco lento e mescolando con frequenza, e si cuoce per 2 ore.

Lasciata prima sedimentare e raffreddare, la lisciva (il prodotto ottenuto) viene filtrata con un panno di cotone.

Si otterrà così un liquido abbastanza limpido, facile da conservare per lunghi periodi in recipienti di plastica o vetro.

La lisciva è sbiancante, sgrassante e disinfettante, e non priva di controindicazioni: è corrosiva.

La lisciva può essere abbinata anche ad altri detergenti come il più semplice sapone di Marsiglia, questo quando si è in presenza di sporco resistente. Si ricorda però che è un prodotto alcalino,e quindi non deve essere mescolato con sostanze acide, pena l'azzeramento di qualsiasi effetto detergente in quanto darebbe origine a dei sali neutri.

Here's the recipe:

1. ash
2. water

One part of ash is mixed with five parts of water (volum ratio). Placed in a pot, used for this purpose only and not alluminium, boils, over low heat, stirring frequently, and cook for 2 hours.

Leaving first to settle and cool, lye (the product obtained) is filtered through a cotton cloth.

This would give a fairly clear liquid, easy to store for long periods in container of plastic or glass.

The lye is bleach, degreaser and disinfectant, and not without its drawbacks: is corrosive.

The lye can also be combined with other cleaning products as simple as soap, whenthis is dirt resistant. It should be stressed that it is an alkaline product, and thereforeshould not be mixed with acidic substances, under penalty of zero for any cleaning effect as would give rise to the neutral salts.

A partire dal 1 gennaio 2011 le borse di plastica sono andate in pensione! Questa è un ottima notizia per l’ambiente, infatti il sacchetto di plastica, così leggero, economico, resistente sembrerebbe un prodotto utile ed innocuo se non fosse che un derivato dal petrolio. Una nota del WWF sottolinea che: “I sacchetti usa e getta sono oggetti che hanno avuto negli anni un pesantissimo impatto ambientale: a fronte di una vita media di utilizzo di circa 20 minuti impiegano molti secoli per essere degradati rilasciando sostanze tossiche e bioaccumulabili nell'ambiente che contaminano acque e suoli ed entrare nelle reti alimentari del pianeta. Le alternative ci sono, pratiche e convenienti sia per l'ambiente che per il portafogli. E' solo questione di abitudine''.
